La Cattedrale di Oria

Today’s cathedral was ordered by bishop Carese Scaja, who in 1750 order the demolition of the old cathedral to build the new one in Barocco style. During the building of the cathedral, supervised by architect Giustino Lombardi, 2 columns of green marble were bought for 8000 ”ducati” by the king of Naples During the recent restauration works we found some bishop’s cript amd also a vaste hypogeal with a permanent crib. From 1992 the cathedral became basilica.
