Chiesa di San Domenico

St. Dominic’s Church

The church of San Domenico dates from 1572 (designed by Saverio Amodio) and was built by the Dominican fathers who came to Oria in 1282, settling in the ancient Calogerato St. Basil, inside the city walls. The present church, had major renovations in the eighteenth century. The interior has a Latin cross with a fine seventeenth-century baroque altars of Lecce school. There are also some valuable paintings, especially that of St. Dominic, the church owner. In the adjoining convent, we find a cloister.
