Antichrist or Messiah

Tomba di Federico II

Tomb of Frederick II

From the begginings of the fortys there was a beliefs that Federico was the antichrist and that he had to be defeated at all costs. On the other side some belief that he was the new messiah sent by God to reform the corrupted church, just like Francesco d’Assisi did in the past. In reality Federico was a firm believer and never put in discossuion the pope institution, however he wanted to separate imperial power from the church. The emperor died while he was dealing with the losses in north Italy. He died in his favorite place “castel fiorentino” in December 13 1250. The body was brought to Palermo.
