From 1600 to 1800

After 1500 Oria wasn’t anymore at the center of history and at the same time the city prestifge started to lwered. It all begins when Oria created an alliance with Francesco I against Carlo V, with a lost that cause Oria the begins of its decline. In the 1700 thanks to Michele Imperiali the restauration of the city began, starting with Porta Manfredi dated 1743 and the construction of the new cathedral, destroying the old church,already demolished by an earthquake.

From 1800 to present

The castle in the early ‘900

In 1800 battles between “oritani and francavillesi” happens. After the police arrested numorous villafrancesi, the populations rebelled and went to the jails to freed them. The conflicts between the two sides did not ceased, as a matter of fact they increase in to a point that soldiers from brindisi Taranto bari and lecce had to intervene. In September 21st of 1897 the city was hit by a big cyclone that destroyed the western side of the city and the majority of its monument. The castle was restaured only in 1933 after duke Martini Carissimo bought the property. In 1950 Oria became city.
